The state-run Anatolia news agency on Thursday reported on statistics on the prime minister’s official trips. According to the report, Erdo?an paid a total of 24 visits to 22 countries spanning different regions.
His total trips equaled 165,120 kilometers, the same as circumnavigating the globe four times over the past year. The lengthiest trip the prime minister took was his journey to the Mexican city of Los Cabos to attend a G20 meeting, which alone totaled nearly 12,000 kilometers.
Erdo?an visited six EU countries in 2012 to give a fresh boost to stalled relations between Turkey and the European bloc.
He also visited Qatar, Saudi Arabia and Egypt in the Middle East region, as well as South Korea, Indonesia and Brunei in the Pacific region.
The intensity of visits reflects the proactive and multidimensional diplomacy of Turkey in recent years as the country aims to deepen its economic and diplomatic ties with more nations on different continents.
