The Supreme Court of Pakistan has ruled that lawmakers holding dual nationalities are not eligible to hold any public officers and declared all such lawmakers as disqualified.
The verdict moreover stated that Interior Minister Rehman Malik was not transparent with respect to his statements and was no longer ‘sadiq’ and ‘ameen’.
The bench said the lawmakers were being disqualified under Article 63(1)(c) of the Constitution.
The court moreover said that legal proceedings would be initiated against lawmakers who had committed perjury with respect to their oaths.
Lawmakers who have been disqualified as a result of the verdict include Zahid Iqbal, Farahnaz Ispahani (Mrs Hussain Haqani ex Ambassador to US), Muhammad Ikhlaq, Ashraf Chauhan, Farhat Muhammad Khan and Jameel Ahmed Malik.
