The jailed Russian punk rock band, Pussy Riot’s appeal against a two-year sentence for performing an anti-Putin song in a Moscow cathedral has been adjourned until October 10th.

The three members of the all girl group were found guilty of “hooliganism motivated by religious hatred.”

Musicians across the globe have condemned the treatment of the women and the case has come to symbolise the intolerance of dissent in Putin’s Russia.

Pussy Riot were arrested in February after after they performed a “punk prayer” against Vladimir Putin in Moscow’s Catherdral of Christ the Saviour.

The Russian Orthodox Church has called for clemency for the trio as has Prime Minister Dimitry Medvedev.

Violetta Volkova, one of the women’s lawyers says they have little chance of a successful appeal in a country where, in her words, the courts bow to political authority.
