HAMBONTOTA – South Africa’s pace attack proved too difficult for Zimbabwe to handle as they bowed out of the Twenty20 World Cup, suffering a 10-wicket thrashing in a Group C game at Hambantota on Thursday.

Put in to bat first, Zimbabwe were restricted to 93 for eight wickets with Craig Ervine making a top score of 37 off 40 balls.

All rounder Jacques Kallis was the pick of South Africa’s bowlers taking four wickets for 15.

South Africa knocked off the runs in just 12.4 overs with openers Richard Levi scoring an unbeaten half-century off 43 balls and Hashim Amla remaining not out on 32.

This was Zimbabwe’s second defeat and they became the first team to be eliminated from the tournament.
