Sunni Tehrik (ST) observed Youm-e-Tahafuz Namoos-e-Risalat (SAW) Day on Friday after completion of two years detention of Mumtaz Hussain Qadri for murdering former governor Punjab Salman Taseer outside a restaurant in Islamabad on January 4, 2010.

On this occasion, small and big rallies were taken out by heads and activists of religious parties in different localities to express solidarity with Malik Mumtaz Hussain Qadri, who has been in Adyala Jail for the last two years for killing the governor.

The participants marched towards Adyala Jail where they presented sweets, gifts and bouquet to jail administration for Qadri. According to detail, ST city chapter and Shabab-e-Islami (SI) carried out a huge rally from Amna Masjid Kuri Road to Adyala Jail to express solidarity with Qadri.

Hundreds of activists were boarding on motorcycles, cars, mini buses and wagons, chanting slogans in favor of Mumtaz Qadri. The rally was jointly led by Allama Ghufran Mehmood Sialvi, Allama Tahir Iqbal Chishti, Mufti Liaquat Ali Rizvi, SI President Mufti Muhammad Hanif Qureshi, Dilpazir Awan, brother of Qadri, PML-N leader Chaudhry Imtiaz Ahmed and Maulana Awais Qureshi.

Addressing the participants outside Adyala Jail, the speakers said the government should try Qadri in Federal Shariat Court instead of Islamabad High Court (IHC) and solve it in the light of teachings of Quran and Sunnah. They said that the government would not be allowed to decide the fate of the nation on the roads adding that Qadri would also be defended according to law and the constitution. They said that conspiracies being hatched against Tahafuz Namoos-e-Risalat (SAW) would be foiled.

They also warned the government to not portray Karachi violence as sectarianism. On January 13, 2013, they said PTS would show his muscles against the government and its allies, who according to them have failed in protecting the lives and property of people in Karachi. ST President Mufti Hanif Qureshi, speaking on the occasion, said that Qadri did a great job by killing governor who dubbed blasphemy law as black law. He urged President Zardari to play his pivotal role for the release of Qadri.

Tight security arrangements were made in and around Adyala Jail by law enforcement agencies to avoid any untoward incident while several roads of city experienced massive traffic jam because of mess of PST and SI activist on roads.

Similarly, activists of Jamiat Ulema Pakistan (Noorani) led by District President Hafiz Muhammad Hussain, also held a peace march from Dhoke Ratta to Fawara Chowk to express solidarity with Mumtaz Hussain Qadri, who has been facing law suit for killing former Governor Punjab Salman Taseer two years ago.
