(PTA) reported an increase in internet usage during COVID-19

As people are spending more time at home and are trying not to socialize during quarantine, Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) reported increase in internet usage by more than 15pc during last two months ’. It also means increase in social media usage and innovation in massive data storage models. Software engineers and computer scientists in Pakistan can come up with understanding and solutions related to advance technologies like NOSQL.

With the advent of technology and recognition for massive storage of data, companies are looking for something more than traditional database storage programs that can no longer comply with the added complexity of clients’ needs. A classic example is a recent launch of “Cloud big table” by Google to accommodate trillions of gigabytes for millions of users. “Cloud Big table” is an example of a NoSQL database (Not only SQL). As compare to SQL relational database model; NoSQL offers several competitive advantages. Let’s look at a few of them:

NOSQL DATABASE during COVID-19

Social networking mediums like Facebook, Twitter, Snapchat, Whatsapp and Tiktok and search engines for example Google, Safari, Internet Explorer and Chrome are increasingly looking for ways to reduce load on single servers. As millions of users are sharing information 24 hours/day, scaling up on single servers could increase workload several-fold. Furthermore, it could lead to crash down with considerable loss of data. In this kind of situation, it is best to use NOSQL that provides the option of scaling out. By this we mean, as millions of users share information on social networks, search engines and mobile apps: Data tends to get distributed among many interconnected servers which reduce the load on one single server by adding an additional server for every 10,000 users.

Smart phone users all over the world use several kinds of apps on daily bases for various chores; from household cooking app to finding a perfect higher education institute. Developers of these apps tends to rely on evolving data models to make sure that there applications are up to date with users demand. As compare to SQL data base models which allow developers to change settings from scratch for initializing new format in existing applications, NOSQL allow developers to use different formats to update applications without compromising time limitations and changing settings.

Softwares that fall under the realm of NOSQL are user-friendly, cost effective and most compatible with cloud computing. This IT tool is designed for automatic repair, less management and simpler data model which make it user friendly. It is open source software which means that developers could act bias without being judged and save huge bucks of money which makes it cost effective. Furthermore, when we mention compatibility with cloud computing, we are referring to a different yet simple design for tabular relations in NOSQL. Its horizontal scaling meshes well with cloud computing which means that developers could no longer worry about hardware they are using but instead focus their energy on software side.

To conclude, NOSQL could offer variety of benefits as stated above .You just have to find the right software in this IT tool and let it do “wonders”, because it is made to do so.

Some popular international companies which are using NOSQL software(s) are; Google (Cloud Big table), Twitter (Inagist), Mozilla (Riak), Microsoft and NASA etc.
