In the race of Grades

For most of the students education is all about good grades and highest marks in the class. This illusion is not only restricted to students but teachers and parents also believe in good grades. Parents think a child who is all rounder will have a secure future and a child weak in some subjects will never be successful in his life. Teachers think that a child who cannot understand my lecture and my way of teaching cannot succeed in any other field of life. But reality is different it is not grades that define you. If a child is good at learning things but he cannot explain it on a paper then it doesn’t mean that he is incapable.

Education isn’t merely a piece of paper containing the same material which you read a book provided by teacher. We can’t classify a person highly educated on the basis of his grades. Education describes you without holding a degree in your hands. Education is how you relate things. The way you convey things to others is education. Clarity of your ideas is education. Your dealings with others describe your education. If you are getting education just for job and employment and you think that this can only be achieved by good grades then you are mistaken. You will get a job in fact a white-collar job due to your grades but your education will lead to somewhere else beyond the concept of money, grades and employment. Education is the satisfaction of your soul and body. It is about manners, thinking and modesty.

In the race of grades our creativity is lost. We only dream about a comfortable house, a luxury car and all the facilities and fame of the world. Our imagination is restricted to only a peaceful future. We are doing a lot of work and getting education for future. Think a while and tell me is this the purpose of your education? If you’re educating yourself then your present should be your priority. If you enjoy your field of education and satisfy with your performance then no matter what the grades are, you will definitely succeed in your life.

One Response to “In the race of Grades”

  • Grades do not matter, education means to know about something you did not know prior. Class room system of education drives the student in race to get high grades. This mythology prevails in the society that if somebody really wants to excel he/she must secure grades, which is a fallacy. Secondly in the race of grades students can’t sustain knowledge for long lasting span of time; rather that is sustained to examination hall only.
Education means to be vigilant about the every segment of life, enabling yourself to speak, listen and tolerate.
Good effort to articulate the basic problem of education system in Pakistan. Keep it up.
