Afghanistan Through to Cricket World Cup 2015

Afghanistan is through to the Cricket World Cup in 2015 after beating Hong Kong by 7 wickets with 17 balls remaining on Tuesday in the semi-final of the Asian T20 in Nepal.

Hong Kong won the toss and elected to bat first, fixing a 110-run target for Afghanistan. The Afghan cricket team reached the target in 17 overs.

On Wednesday, Afghanistan will play in the grand final facing the winner of the semi-final between United Arab Emirates and Nepal for a chance at becoming the Asian T20 champion.

The Asian T20, hosted by Nepal this year, has 10 teams competing. The top two teams will head to the 2015 World Cup.

Afghanistan won three of its four previous matches before the semi-final. Defeating Kuwait Bahrain and Oman, but losing to the UAE.

Afghanistan lost on Saturday to the UAE. Batting first, the Afghans finished the 20 over’s with 143 runs. The UAE passed the target with more than six wickets remaining.

The Afghan team playing in Nepal includes Mohammad Nabi Esakhel, Karim Sadiq, Shapoor Zadran, Nasim Briz, Najibullah Zadran, Fazal Niazi, Gulbodin Naib, Samiullah Shinwari, Shafiqullah Shafaq, Mohammad Nasim, Mohammad Sami Agha, Aftab Alam, and Hamza Hotak.
