A photo of Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg shirtless is circulating online. How it got on the Web is open to speculation, and Facebook isn’t commenting.
The Zuckerberg “sighting” story appears to have first been picked up by TMZ who published the story with the accompanying photo. The image emerged on the image-sharing site imgur. The poster wrote in the caption an explanation that “appears to explain how the anonymous poster got a hold of the shot in the first place,” reported TMZ. The individual who posted the image online said the photo was “accidentally” posted by Facebook Director of Engineering Andrew Bosworth who is also in the photo. Bosworth reportedly removed the photo in a time frame described as “seconds.” However, it wasn’t taken down quick enough, as the anonymous poster took the image and sent it out into cyberspace. The photo shows Zuckerberg with several other people at some sort of gathering. By the photo it is hard to get context of the circumstances, although this reporter suspects it’s some sort of swimming outing, as it looks like one member of the group has goggles around his neck. Speculation and rumors are flying, which indicate there may have been a privacy screw-up at Facebook and privacy settings failed. “That, or someone’s gonna be getting unfriended by the CEO real fast,” said The Hollywood Gossip. If this is a privacy settings issue, it wouldn’t be the first time Zuckerberg has been a victim of his own network. Last December images of Zuckerberg’s were shared on imgur after a Facebook glitch failed privacy settings. Facebook later acknowledged the glitch in a statement. Was the shirtless Zuckerberg pic a privacy screw up or simply posted as a mistake? Until Facebook offers a statement, it’s likely tons of speculation will continue.
