Pak-academia expressing solidarity with Malala

The Punjab University Academic Staff Association on Thursday organised a protest rally from Undergraduate Study Centre to Faisal Auditorium to condemn the cowardly attack on Malala Yousafzai.

Led by Acting Vice Chancellor Prof Dr Liaqat Ali, the rally was participated by ASA Acting President Dr Ehsan Sharif, Prof Dr Shaukat Ali, Prof Dr Mansoor Sarwar, Javed Sami, Shumaila Gull and a large number of faculty members, employees and students.

The participants were wearing black armbands and holding banners inscribed with prayers for good health of the ambassador of education. Talking to media, Prof Dr Liaqat Ali said the PU teachers, employees and students strongly condemned attack on Malala and the purpose of the rally was to express solidarity with the ray of knowledge.

He said we prayed to Almighty Allah to bless her with the best of health. He demanded of the government to punish culprits involved so that nobody could carry out such a cowardly attack in future.

ASA Acting President Dr Ehsan Sharif said the PU teachers strongly condemned the inhuman attack on Malala and the whole nation was praying for her health. He tendered appeal to Pakistan government to arrest culprits at the earliest. Earlier, Prof Dr Shaukat Ali of Institute of Chemical Engineering and Technology offered pray for longlife of Malala.

The Punjab University’s Registrar Office issued a notice to the academic and administrative staff to wear black strips/ribbons on Thursday to register protest against brutal attack on Malala.

LUMS: The Lahore University of Management Sciences (LUMS) and its students come together in disgust at the horrific murderous attempt on the 14-year old peace and education activist, Malala Yousafzai, and in solidarity and resolve to honour, support and keep her message of education for all thriving at the LUMS and beyond.

To do so, the student body at LUMS declared Thursday as Malala Day. They were wearing black armbands to condemn the attack on her. They also organised a peace vigil to honour Malala at the Central Academic Courtyard at LUMS.

The LUMS is also launching a fundraising drive to create a ‘Malala for Education Fund’ to support the educational mission of the young activist.

MAO: The teachers and students of the MAO College prayed for early recover of Malala. College Principal Dr Farhan Ebadat Yar Khan and faculty members strongly condemned the brutal incident.

YAUM-E-DUA: Consequent to the directions of the Punjab government regarding the unfortunate incident of firing at the young shining star, Malala Yousafzai, a Youm-e-Dua will be observed today (Friday) in all the six schools being run by Lahore Development Authority in the City.

In this connection, speeches will be delivered regarding contribution of Malala Yousafzai in the education sector, deliberation will be held on importance of female education and special prayers will also be offered for the health and early recovery of Malala.
