SARANGANI Representative and Filipino boxing champion Manny Pacquiao has confirmed that he will run for senator in next year’s polls.
Pacquiao made the announcement on Monday after his State of the District Address in the capital town of Alabel.
In a report by Radyo Inquirer, Pacquiao is set to formally announce his Senate bid within this week.
The lawmaker has remained mum on which political party he will join in next year’s polls. Pacquiao is a member of Vice President Jejomar Binay’s United Nationalist Alliance. However, an Inquirer report said that the Liberal Party will leave a slot open for Pacquiao in its senatorial slate should he decide to join the administration party.
LP deferred its announcement of its senatorial lineup to Friday, October 9.
