Only in Japan: A toilet motorcycle that really runs on poop

Toto, Japan’s largest toilet manufacturer, has revealed this year’s second coolest vehicle since that fully functioning Kuratas mech from a few weeks ago. Yes, everyone is talking about the “poop-powered” motorcycle, an energy-efficient bike that runs on animal waste. Development talks have been on-going since 2009, but for those who have always dreamed of riding on a giant three-wheeled toilet seat, their day has finally come with Toto’s “Toilet Bike Neo.”

The environmentally friendly motorcycle is able to travel a distance of 300 kilometers (186 miles) on a single tank of bio-fuel. This fuel is made from the waste of livestock animals and sewage. Upon riders climbing aboard, spokespeople explained that (sadly) they would be able to provide “gas” as they drive (Maybe next year’s model? Fingers crossed!). Allowing the vehicle’s designers to have their fun, Toto’s 250cc bike features a custom toilet-shaped fuel tank that also acts as the rider’s seat, as well as a giant toilet paper roll on the back.

Toto says they hope to use the vehicle as a way to promote the development of their environmentally friendly products, such as toilet and showerheads that conserve water. While the Toilet Bike Neo’s seat can’t really function as a toilet, it is certainly a great way to grab attention, especially when you get a look someone riding it. The most heart-breaking piece of information that Toto spokespeople released, however, is that they have no intentions of commercializing the motorcycle, showcasing the company’s sometimes terrible business decisions.
