Christmas season is the time where people tend to come together and celebrate the spirit. For the most part, Christmas is a holiday that mostly applies to those of the Christian faith: Baptists, Episcopalians, Lutherans, Catholics, and so forth. The holiday has turned into something that can be applied to people who practice different religious faiths or people who don’t practice religion at all. In the case of a local food drive in London – Ontario, Canada, Muslims and Catholics have joined together for a common cause: giving food to the needy. You have groups from two different religious faiths coming together for a food drive for the needy.
Members of the St. John the Divine Catholic Church and members of the local London, Ontario Muslim Mosque joined together to collect food to feed hungry families for the holidays. This is the first time that the church has reached out to the mosque let alone the Muslim community. When they are approached with the idea, members of the mosque happily said “yes” and actively participated. The end result of this joint food drive operation between Catholicism and Islam in London, Ontario, is that over one-hundred families will not go hungry for the holiday season.
One person from the mosque said that while they don’t celebrate Christmas, they feel the spirit of the holiday.
Events such as a food drive for the needy is an example that people of different religious faiths can unite for a common cause: the people.
