We live in a world of a technologically advanced era, so everyone is aware of online education and courses. There has been much discussion on the benefits of technology and online education, which all hold true as this is one avenue that has opened up new opportunities of learning for many young learners and professionals alike. However, the story does not end here! In this article, we present the other side of the coin by discussing some of the limitations and challenges that students face who acquire online education.

1. Online education lacks personal touch:
First of all, it is quite apparent that online education lacks a personal touch. Students who go to conventional colleges and schools have access to their lecturers and teachers and they can talk to them face to face, discuss their problems and ideas and get first hand feedback. However, when students opt to learn via online tutorials or course, most of the times they cannot talk to the teacher directly to clear their concepts i.e. the flow of communication is one sided.
Moreover, in atypical classroom setting, a student gets to interact with his peers on a personal level, so students get to make new friends. This, however, is not possible when students opt for online tutorials or virtual universities.

2. No facility of laboratories in science based courses that require practical work:
There are many virtual universities that provide education related to science, for example, engineering courses, etc. However, these courses require practical work so that students can attain practical knowledge related to the theory that is being taught. Online courses cannot provide laboratories to assist students to acquire this practical knowledge.

3. The flexibility gives students more chances to procrastinate:
It is one of the most written about benefits of online education that it is flexible and students as well as professionals can decide when to study according to their schedule. However, many students require a fixed schedule to function properly. They need defined classes with permanent timings so that they can work effectively. If such learners decide to opt for such flexible learning methods, this can lead to non-productivity.

4. Most courses do not offer degrees/ diplomas at the end:
Lastly, many professionals as well as students opt for online courses because they need to enhance their skills or learn new techniques emerging in their industry. However, most of the times, they do not get any certificate/ diploma/ degree which can testify they have attended a course or lecture.

Apart from the aforementioned challenges faced by online education, the biggest of them all is that the internet is not accessible in all the regions of the world. For the first world countries, this might seem odd, however, in many third world countries, almost half of the population does not have direct access to a computer, much less the internet. It is an established fact that online education can do wonders, so if we try to harness this power for the greater good and overcome these challenges, online education will prove to be beneficial for all.
