After eggs, ink was thrown at AAP leader Arvind Kejriwal while he was undertaking a road show in Varanasi on Tuesday following his visit to the Kal Bhairav and Kashi Vishwanath temples.

Mr. Kejriwal’s face and shirt were splattered with ink by unidentified people. The U.P. in-charge of the party Sanjay Singh and former Delhi Law Minister Somnath Bharti were also targeted by these people.

The AAP leader also faced sporadic protests while undertaking the road show.

Earlier, according to supporters, eggs were thrown at Mr. Kejriwal’s car outside the Kashi Vishwanath Temple in Varanasi.

The egg-throwing incident occurred when Mr. Kejriwal was exiting the temple after offering prayers ahead of his rally in the city, they said. However, police at the spot denied that any such incident had taken place.

Earlier, the former Delhi Chief Minister took a dip in the Ganga after arriving in Varanasi by the Shiv Ganga Express from New Delhi.

The Aam Aadmi Party leader is scheduled to address a public rally at which he is expected to seek support for taking on Mr. Modi, the BJP nominee from Varanasi.

Smeared with sandalwood paste as he exited from the Vishwanath temple, Mr. Kejriwal did not speak to journalists and merely smiled even as the vocal protests continued.
