Three huge explosions rocked the heart of Kabul city on Friday at 4 pm.

According to reports, the explosion took place in the Qowai Markaz area. Unconfirmed reports state that two separate blasts happened in the Wazir Akbar Khan and Karte-Se areas. Along with the explosions, gun-fire was also heard in these areas.

Kabul Police Chief confirmed the attack and told TOLOnews reporter that four of the five bombers are dead. The bombers had occupied a neighbouring building to carry out the attacks.

TOLOnews reporter at the blast site is saying that fierce gun-fire is still continuing. Two bombers are resisting and the special forces are closing in to bring them down.

Meanwhile, Mohammad Zahir Zahir, Head of Criminal Investigation Department, Kabul Police told TOLOnews, “According the information that we have, the suicide bombers took shelter in a nearby building, gun-fire is still continuing and we will soon kill them.”

He also added that one is killed and eight others have been injured in the attack. The injured and killed comprise of civilians and defence personnel.

Taliban has claimed responsibility for the ongoing attack.

UN Spokesperson told TOLOnews that United Nations Assistance Mission in Afghanistan (UNAMA) is not the target of the ongoing attack.

Afghan and foreign forces are evacuating foreign civilians from the area. Nothing about the casualties is known.

Afghan Public Protection Force (APPF), Malalai Hospital and other government buildings are near the blast site. The Indian Embassy is also located just 300 meters away from the place of action.

There is no confirmation on whether it was a suicide attack. Also, the number of casualties is not known as of now. Being a Friday, no VIP movement was expected in these areas when the blast took place. The blast locations are known to be buzzing with VIPs on working days.
