A shot in the arm is in order for the box office and it may come in the form of “Guardians of the Galaxy.” Even if the glut of superheroes has taken its toll, this escapism movie may hit the spot.
After “Guardians of the Galaxy” gets digested, it could be a good thing. It not only has the potential of creating great characters (and likable), the music will hit home for the nostalgic crowd, and the baby boomers.

Weekend

1. “Guardians of the Galaxy” – 4,080 theaters
2. “Get On Up” – 2,468 theaters
3. “Calvary” – 4 theaters

Other notables include Djimon Hounsou, John C. Reilly, Glenn Close and Benicio Del Toro. It is rated PG-13.

The other wide release for the weekend is “Get On Up.” It is the story of James Brown and it directed by Tate Taylor, who directed “The Help.” This is Chadwick Boseman’s film. “Get on Up” is rated PG-13. Boseman already has played a legend on screen in Jackie Robinson in “42” so he is no stranger to how hard that can be. The film also stars Viola Davis and Octavia Spencer… see more
