If you don’t like the look of Google Glass, there might soon be another option: smart contact lenses.

Researchers recently developed technology that could allow them to create contact lenses that have the same capabilities as Google’s high-tech frames: photo-taking, text messaging and surfing the Internet, for starters.

Scientists from South Korea’s Ulsan National Institute of Science and Technology, led by Jang-Ung Park, attached a “transparent, highly conductive, and stretchy mix of graphene and silver nanowires” to an ordinary pair of contact lenses, Technology Review reported. They tested the lenses on rabbits, whose eyes are about the same size as humans.

In a study, researchers noted that the rabbits didn’t rub their eyes or appear irritated.

“Our goal is to make a wearable contact lens display that can do all the things Google Glass can do,” Park said.

Several companies, including Samsung, are experimenting with smart contact lenses.

Google hasn’t said whether it will release a lens version of Google Glass.
