‘Gener’ leaves 23 dead–NDRRMC : Philippine

MANILA, Philippines–As typhoon Gener made its way to northeastern Taiwan, its rains have left 23 people dead and over 300,000 affected, the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council said Thursday.

 

 

The new fatalities were: Angelito Bicoy from Quezon province, who died from drowning; Efren Salvacion from Obando and Patrick dela Rosa from Marilao in Bulacan, who both died from drowning; Mary Jane Lima from Silay, Negros Occidental who was hit by a falling tree; Madeline Caminade from Arevalo Plaza in Iloilo, who was also hit by a falling tree; Emelia and Andrei Pasugirom of Bayawan City, Negros Oriental, who both died after being hit by a fallen tree; Augusto Campo from Kinoguitan, Misamis Oriental, who died after being hit by a tree; Laga Gani Toni and Datu Toni, from Kabuntalan, Maguindanao, who both died from drowning.

 

 

Affected population were 69,292 families or 331,588 persons from 27 provinces in Ilocos region, Cagayan, Central Luzon, Calabarzon, Mimaropa,Western and Central Visayas, Northern Mindanao, Davao, Soccksksargen and Cordillera Administrative Region.

 

 

There were 37,225 families or 179,990 persons served in evacuation centers.

 

 

Meanwhile, no one was declared missing. Rescued persons were at 125.

 

 

The total amount of damaged crops and poultry in Cagayan, Rizal and Iloilo was worth P2.130 million.

 

 

There were 2,785 damaged houses, 600 of which were totally damaged.

 

 

Declared under state of calamity were Mabitac, Laguna; Bacoor, Tanza, Ternate, Rosario, Kawit, Naic, Novelete and Cavite City in Cavite.

 

A total of 29 roads and three bridges in Ilocos, Cagayan, Pampanga, Occidental Mindoro, Aklan, Camiguin, Benguet, Mountain Province and NCR were closed to traffic.
