Five people, including a mother and three children, have died in a horrific high-speed accident during which one of the cars was split in two by the impact of the crash.
The accident, which happened about 6pm on Saturday, claimed the lives of a 36-year-old Pakistani mother, her three children, including a four-year-old boy and two girls aged seven and two years, and the Emirati driver of the other vehicle.
The dead woman’s husband is fighting for his life in hospital.
A Sharjah police source said the Emirati driver, who was in a four-wheel drive, was speeding and crashed into the Pakistani family’s saloon car after losing control over its wheels.
The four-wheel drive crashed into the family’s car with such force it broke the second car in half, before rolling over several times.
A senior Al Dhaid police official said the Emirati driver initially survived the crash but died later in Al Dhaid Hospital’s intensive care unit about 8.30pm.
