Filipinos demand justice for assault victim

Filipinos in the Kingdom have expressed shock, anger and desire for justice for a compatriot who had been reported to have been beaten, raped and left in the desert in Riyadh. The incident has been reported to the Philippine Embassy which sent a representative to visit him at the hospital where he’s in serious condition.

The victim has been identified as Mckornic Rabina from Bukidnon. Benny M. Quiambao, a Filipino community leader in Riyadh, said: “What happened to him shows sheer cruelty and man’s disregard for human life. Justice must be served.”

He said: “This is one reason why many have been saying that the Philippine government should not send OFWs to the Kingdom anymore, particularly household service workers (HSWs) such as housemaids.”
From Alkhobar, Florencio M. Catanus, finance and payroll manager at Audhali Law Firm, commented: “What happened is shocking to all OFWs, particularly to the victim’s relatives back home in the Philippines.”

Charles B. Tabbu, IT manager at Saudi Arabian Marketing Agencies Comp. in Jeddah, said: “Authorities in the Kingdom and in the Philippines should endeavor to work together to solve the case so that justice could be served.”

Filipinos have also posted angry reactions on the Internet, seeking justice for Rabina.
