Speaking to a crowd of his supporters in northwestern Turkish town of Tekirdağ, Erdoğan recalled the leaked confidential documents that Taraf daily published earlier this week. The first document Taraf published was a secret plot against Gülen, also signed by the government in 2004 during a National Security Council (MGK) meeting. The same newspaper published a series of documents that indicated the Prime Ministry and the National Intelligence Organization (MİT) categorized, classified, profiled and blacklisted citizens, particularly those who have connection to religious groups. The government later acknowledged the profiling.
Erdoğan called on those who blamed the government for profiling the citizens and asked them to put forward those who leaked these documents. He noted that the Constitution strictly prohibits this kind of activities and said no one has a right to unveil state secrets.
He reminded that the Prime Ministry, MGK and MİT filed complaint against Taraf and Mehmet Baransu, Taraf journalist who published the documents, for publishing the secret documents.
“I now see that some media groups are hand-in-hand. These groups couldn’t even come together until recently. Exposing state secret is not freedom but a absolutely treason to the country and homeland,” Erdoğan said.
