Famous for hits such as “Cuando Me Enamoro” and “Hero”, Enrique Iglesias is the youngest and third child of famous veteran Spanish crooner Julio Iglesias, and Isabel Preysler, a magazine journalist and socialite who moved from the Philippines to Madrid when she was a teenager. The couple split in 1979 after a seven-year marriage, and Preysler is now married to former Spanish finance minister Miguel Boyer.
However, Iglesias doesn’t forget his Filipino roots and while currently on tour in the US, made a choice to do his best to assist in the disaster.
According to the UN, the typhoon Haiyan may have killed over 10,000 people, but estimates are difficult due to the severe effects of the storm. It is also estimated that over 11.3 million Filipinos have been affected by Haiyan with at least 673,000 made homeless. Some areas have literally been flattened with trees and buildings completely destroyed.
Typhoon Haiyan comes in the wake of a 7.2-magnitude earthquake which hit the Philippines a month ago, which destroyed the homes and livelihoods of approximately 350,000 Filipinos.
Since basically following in his father’s footsteps, and arriving on the music scene in 1995, Enrique Iglesias has sold over 100 million albums worldwide, making him one of the most popular Spanish artists of all time. His latest song “Heart Attack” is included below.
