Emirati women guards for Prince Charles’ wife on UAE visit

A group of Emirati women are winning praise for their commitment to duty and discipline as they guarded UK’s Prince Charles’ wife during the couple’s recent visit to the UAE.

Earlier this week, Clarence House on Instagram and Twitter (the official account representing The Prince of Wales and The Duchess of Cornwall) posted a picture from the Duchess’ visit to the Dubai Foundation for Women and Children – a shelter that supports women and children fleeing from domestic violence and helps families strengthen ties – where she was flanked by a protection team of four burqa clad Emirati women.

Three of whom had also achieved the feat of scaling the highest peak in the world, Mount Everest.

The post is an acknowledgement by the royal family of the increasing role of women across all sectors of UAE, including governance and security.

In recent years, Emirati fighter pilot Major Mariam Al Mansouri has made headlines around the world after she became the first pilots to lead the campaign against Daesh, pounding the terror group in Syria.

Her exploits with a squadron of F-16 fighter jets was trending on social media, earlier this year.
