The man who leaked the information about government monitoring in the USA disappeared.
Having unveiled the intelligence gathering methods of the US intelligence agencies, whistle-blower Edward Snowden was hiding in Hong Kong. He had gone there on May 20, and checked in at a hotel.

Hotel staff said Snowden left the hotel on Monday afternoon.

Former CIA employee Snowden’s whereabouts is currently unknown, but he is thought to be still hiding in Hong Kong.

Snowden was working for a defense industry company and he recently said “I am not afraid of what’s going to happen to me.”

In an interview with the Guardian newspaper, Snowden said “I don’t want to live in a world where everything I do and say is recorded.”

White House did not make a comment on whethere they would take action on the extradition of Snowden or not.

Referring to the issue at a daily press conference, White House Spokesperson Jay Carney said Snowden hurt his country.

Upon these developments the US society stands divided on the issue.

Some people believe Snowden must be punished for disclosing secret information. A few representatives have already called on President Obama to take action to bring Snowden before justice.

Others stand behind Snowden, and even have taken action for him to be pardoned.

More than 20 thousand people signed the petition on the White House website.

When the number reaches 100 thousand, Washington administration has to give an official response to the petition.
