Despite being hacked by critics, “Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice” broke records – debuting at $170.1 million over the Easter weekend – ranking as the top opening weekend for a DC Comics movie, the best ever March unveiling, and the sixth biggest domestic box office opening weekend of all-time, Variety magazine reported on Sunday.
“This sets us up well,” said Jeff Goldstein, Warner Bros. distribution executive vice president, told Variety. “We’re very proud of what we’ve made before in the DC world and what’s coming in front of us is really exciting.”
The studio went all out, casting Ben Affleck as Batman, and bringing back Superman star Henry Cavill and “Man of Steel” director Zack Snyder– all while paying $250 million in production expenses, as well as millions more in promotional campaigns… see more
