Arsenal will look forward to a mouth-watering clash with Chelsea in the next round of the Capital One Cup after beating West Brom on penalties.

A fiercely contested encounter went the distance after Saido Berahino cancelled out Thomas Eisfeld’s goal in normal time.

Eisfeld had fired Arsenal ahead after a lovely pass from Nicklas Bendtner on the edge of the box, before Berahino pounced during a Baggies corner to level things up.

And despite West Brom hitting the post and having an effort stabbed off the line as the game went into extra time, the fixture went to spot kicks, where Arsenal held their nerve.

Steven Reid and Bendtner were both spot on after the first round of spot kicks, before Serge Gnabry missed and Marcus Rosenberg put his side 2-1 up.

However, Kristoffer Olsson kept Arsenal in touch and despite James Morrison scoring to make it 3-2, Craig Dawson missed and Chuba Akpom made it 3-3.

Morgan Amalfitano then surprisingly dragged his effort wide, and Nacho Monreal converted to send Arsenal into the next round.
