A new poll indicates that a party that has urged Germany to stop using the euro currency may be popular enough to win seats during an election for the European Parliament.

Sunday’s poll measuring the popularity of Germany’s political parties put that of the Alternative for Germany party at seven percent. In the May election only parties that win at least three percent of the vote can win seats to represent Germany in the European Parliament.

Friday’s poll by the Emnid research center questioned 865 people, but gave no margin of error.

On Saturday, Alternative for Germany elected its leader, Bernd Lucke, and a prominent new member, Hans-Olaf Henkel, as top candidates for that election.

Euroskeptic parties are expected to do well in many countries in the European Parliament election.
