Russia said on Tuesday that two ballistic missiles were fired towards the eastern Mediterranean in the central part of the sea.

An alert about the start of two “ballistic objects” was received at 10.16 a.m. (11.46 a.m. IST) from a radar station in Armavir, close to the Russian Black Sea coast, an unnamed Defence Ministry spokesman in Moscow was quoted as saying by news agencies.

The spokesman said the missiles were flying from the central Mediterranean towards its eastern shore.

Defence Minister Sergei Shoigu informed President Vladimir Putin about the incident, the reports said.
